De\/het gelukkige stad(je) wat ons welkom mocht heten was Whitby aan de Noord-Oost kust van Engeland en liggend in het mooie North Yorks Moors (ja, die van Irene) National Park. Op tijd vertrokken op een koninklijke dag en via Rotterdam in een veerbootje naar Hull. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow Goede oude gewoonte dat onze eerste nacht aan boord het halve budget er doorgedraaid is aan drank maar what\u2019s new\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Toen de customs \u2013 oude gewoonte \u2013 in Hull de auto van de twee Hanzen onderzocht had op smokkelwaar konden we via Stokesley (Joep kon Van Oord weer niet missen en moest daar ff langs) en route naar Whitby. Even puzzelen maar ons \u2013 wederom fantastische huis \u2013 gevonden. Middags even een rondje in de buurt doen op onze MTB\u2019s en gelukkig zat het stuur links bij iedereen want het was alle hens aan dek. Met hellingsprecentages van over de 16.3 % \u2026. Pffff. En dan die gasten in de Tour de France maar klagen\u2026. Meteen die avond de beroemde fish &amp; chips geprobeerd in HET restaurant van Whitby: Niet te vreten, unanieme verdict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Volgende dag &#8211; na een echt engels ontbijt, Jurgen bedankt voor de eggs &#8211; een schitterende tocht gemaakt van Whitby naar Scarborough, langs de kust over een zeer bloemrijk pad. Fantastische vergezichten over de zee (aan onze linker hand) en een erg leuke stop in Ravenscar \u2013 wie kent het not! Licht klimmend en dalend het gebracht tot Scarborough waar de upper class van het Britse Koninkrijk zich tegoed deed aan hotdogs, pizza\u2019s en veel chips. Ondertussen aangevallen door reusachtige zeemeeuwen. Terug even mooi, dalend en klimmend, zee lag plotseling rechts, scones gegeten in Ravenscar en in Whitby voldaan neergezakt in de fantastische bank en stoelen van onze lounge. Die avond tijdens het eten werd de beroemde mascotte \u2013 De stalen geit \u2013 met trots en veel genoegen overhandigt aan Jurgen. Die was daar zo ontroerd door dat hij hem pas 7 weken later is komen ophalen\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De zaterdag was een dag van verrassingen. Met de trein richting Middlesborough en onderweg een stop in het NT huis, Ormesby Hall. Lekker in het gazon, zonnetje. Wat wil een Lord nog meer. Bedoeling was daar van onze \u2013 zoals altijd onbetrouwbare \u2013 toerleider een Brewery te bezichtigen in Middlesborough. Melde die eikel op het station dat het voetbalkaartjes geworden waren van de lokale FC tegen Stoke City. Waardeloze wedstrijd, veel gezuip, mooie doelpunten en toen in de trein terug Hans zich afvroeg of er voldoende pleepapier was , was de measure fool &#8212;- holy shit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Na de zondagdienst in een druilige omgeving de Abby van Whitby bezocht \u2013 bouw nog niet klaar \u2013 en via de mooie Moors richting York. Mooie wandeling gemaakt om de beroemde kathedraal, broodje gegeten en zeer voldaan terug naar de boot in Hull. Gelukkig nog een pub ontdekt voor het inschepen want een witte per day keeps the surgeon away\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wat een supertrip, flauwe humor heeft nieuwe dieptepunten bereikt en wat heeft dat eiland toch fantastische plekken voor ons vijf gekken\u2026.
